How to use interactions?

Step 1

To add an interaction to a slide, click “Show interactions” above the presentation. In this example, we are using the presentation template created in the article: How to create a presentation?

Slide 1: Interaction – automatic slide change after 10 seconds

Step 2

Click “Add a trigger”. You want the first slide to automatically change after 10 seconds. To do this, select the “Time” condition, then “Beginning of page” and set the delay to 10 seconds.

Step 3

Click “Add an action” and select “Change page – Next”.

Step 4

The stack of interactions should look as follows.

Slide 2: Interaction – content changes after clicking on the image

Step 5

Go to the next slide and then press “Show interactions” again. You want the content of the presentation to change when you click on the image. To do this, add a “Click” condition, then “Media”, and select the element to which the interaction should apply. In this example, you have only one photo, but if the slide contains more elements, you can specify which element the condition applies to. When selecting a media item from the list, the selected item is highlighted with a blue frame.

Step 6

Click “Add an action” and select “Edit content – Text”. Select the text field you want to change. First, let’s change the title. In the “After” field, change the title text.

Step 7

Add another action in the same column, select “Edit content – Text” again. This time, select the text field with the description. Change the description by editing the “After” field.

Step 8

The last interaction will be the image swap. Add another action – select “Edit content – Media”. Select the element and the new file and click “Done”.

Testing your interactions

Step 9

When you run the presentation, the first slide will automatically change after 10 seconds. On the second slide, click on the fish image to see how interactions work in practice.

Step 10

You can see the interaction preview by expanding the bar on the right side of the presentation. From there you can also disable all interactions.

The interactions described above are just an example. You can create your own, tailored to your teaching methods, to increase student engagement.

Remember that:

  • Interactions in one column refer to the same condition.
  • If you want to add different interactions, e.g. to several images or buttons, each interaction should have a separate condition in a separate column.
